MEET TODAY’S GUEST

Darlynn

Darlynn channels old Hollywood glamour with a modern kinky edge, drawing inspiration from icons like Brigitte Bardot, Raquel Welch, and Claudia Schiffer. At 61, she's a self-described "low-key drag queen" who views crossdressing as a craft with a sexy side. Not fully out and navigating a relationship where her partner doesn't know about Darlynn, she transforms for 4-5 hours at a time, seeking the perfect blend of transformation artistry and authentic desire. Her journey from small-town pantyhose experiments to mastering makeup through eBay finds reflects the explosive impact of the internet on crossdressing freedom.

To Darlynn: thank you for your honesty and boldness in sharing your story. Your willingness to talk openly about the complexities, the secrecy, the sexuality, the craft, the urgency of time, adds depth and realness to what we're building here. This interview captures something essential.

To my readers: meet someone who doesn't hold back. Darlynn's journey from sexual experimentation to artistic craft, her "eBay makes me gay" philosophy, and her unflinching advice will make you think, laugh, and maybe see your own journey differently.

This is just the beginning, and I'm grateful you're here for it.

THE INTERVIEW

When did you first realize you wanted to explore crossdressing? Was there a specific moment?

I was born before the internet and social media. I lived in a small town of about 5,000 people. I think the first spark was a foreign feeling from when I would wrap a towel to dry off around me and pretended it was a skirt. About 9 or 10.

How has your relationship with crossdressing evolved over the years?

Well there was no internet, and buying makeup was impossible for me. Clothing was basically pantyhose, all sexual. Now with the internet and online shopping, holy cow. I've learned and practiced my skill with makeup and clothing how I like. It's not as sexual like before I view it more as a craft with a sexy side.

I view it more as a craft with a sexy side.

Describe your signature style in three words.

Sexy casual, old school hot, and a bit of tease. Always a choker.

What's your most treasured piece in your wardrobe, and why?

My most treasured is my wig. It completes the transformation, otherwise I still look like a man without it. Second would be the hip pads, the hourglass figure is so important to create the femme form.

What's one fashion "rule" you've broken that turned out to be your best decision?

I don't have rules for dressing, only successes and failures.

Walk us through your getting-ready ritual. Where do you start?

My ritual takes an hour (this does not include body hair shaving but I generally keep that nice anyway). From shaving my face and moisturizing to lipstick and lip gloss then the wig. Looking in the mirror I will know if I pass or need a redo. Then I get to go through my clothes and outfits for my photoshoot. Typically I'm femme for 4-5 hours at a time. Wish it was longer but I have things to do, lol.

What's the one makeup product or technique that changed everything for you?

Foundation and contouring. Hide the masculine features under your mask. You have to think like you're in theatre playing a female, go all out.

Hide the masculine features under your mask. You have to think like you're in theatre playing a female, go all out.

How long does a full transformation typically take you?

About an hour and a half start to finish. (Side note: it annoys me when I get a message and the person says "can you be free in 10 minutes?")

What's the most challenging aspect of presenting feminine? What comes most naturally?

For me I think it's walking and posture, I have a tendency to slump.

How do you identify? (Crossdresser, gender-fluid, trans, other?)

This one is like the chicken or the egg. It's not all of one and the terms are a little off, but I think of myself as a low-key drag queen first then a crossdresser second. I don't put on women's clothing unless I can put on the makeup. I think if you're strictly a crossdresser you don't worry too much about the makeup like a drag queen would. Maybe I'm a transvestite who goes complete femme but doesn't go on a stage. I think Facebook has a box you click that says "it's complicated."

When you're dressed, do you feel like a different person or more authentically yourself?

I first dress for how I like to present. I don't have to dress my age. I'm a guy wearing a dress and I want to make an impression even if it's a quiet one. So when I'm transformed I have a strong urge to be with a man. I do want to be the person I call Darlynn, so yes, I turn 100% gay when I'm in drag.

Complete this sentence: "Crossdressing makes me feel..."

distant.

What emotion do you feel most when fully dressed and looking in the mirror?

I think the first thing is I'm happy to see her again, lol. I think I’m about the same as when I’m in drag besides the gay part.

Are you out? If so, how did that process unfold?

No I am not out. I think because of its strong sexual nature, no one wants to know. I'm a quiet person anyway and depending on who I interact with I have different conversations with them.

What has been the most supportive response you've received?

My biggest fan is an old roommate from the 90s. We are still buddies and live in the same state.

How has the online crossdressing/trans community impacted your journey?

Wow. Exploded. From being able to buy clothing and makeup and use digital photography. A dream come true. Then seeing other people in forums and on social media, it makes me feel not as alone.

What do you wish more people understood about crossdressers?

Each crossdresser is different, each has viewpoints on the world. Just because I wear a dress doesn't make me dumb, haha. Look beyond the sexual tensions between us.

How does crossdressing intersect with your sexuality? Are they connected or separate?

I'm pretty much a straight, female-loving guy 99% of the time. I don't think about sex with a man unless I'm dressed up. So separate, I think.

If you're in a relationship, how does your partner feel about your crossdressing?

If she knew, we would not be together.

What's your most memorable experience dressed—whether romantic, social, or personal?

I still remember a Halloween when I was invited into the ladies' room while at the bar. I was dressed up like a Victoria's Secret model at the time, of course I was. We became friends while I was not dressed up. Such a wild and fun summer.

Have you experienced attraction or attention while dressed? How does that feel?

I'm attracted to a gentleman that looks like he takes care of himself. I'm so shy even though I dress on the sexy side for fashion. So my gaze is not looking up to see who is looking at me when I went out.

Is there a dominant or submissive element to how you feel when dressed?

Heck yes, submissive 95% of the time. The other 5% is if you annoy me and you get my aggressive side. To be someone else's arm candy is a goal.

To be someone else's arm candy is a goal.

Does crossdressing connect to any kinks or fetishes for you?

I like bondage and being the subject of his attention. I don't want to be able to move an inch.

What's your most daring dressed experience?

I think it was going to a normal pub in drag, 90s in Albuquerque.

What's one product, hack, or piece of advice every crossdresser should know?

I think you have to practice more than you think. Keep it simple as possible until it becomes you.

Where do you shop? Any favorite brands or hidden gems?

Yes, I use eBay. I say eBay makes me gay. Lowest price first, of course :)

Biggest crossdressing fail or wardrobe malfunction story?

Boob placement. I'm always adjusting them.

Do you go out dressed? If so, where? If not, what would it take?

I have, long time ago in the late 90s, gay bar, alternative bar, goth club. Lots of fun. I want to go out with a man or woman or other crossdresser for a fun date. They better hurry up 'cause I'm not getting any younger. Haha.

What's something you spent too much money on that was totally worth it?

Well I spend as little as possible anyway, but makeup and a wig. Hip pads a close second. I think my worst purchase was, no offense, silicone boobs that you wear like a tank top. So hot and getting in and out was a project.

What's on your crossdressing bucket list?

Blend in somewhere with someone.

If you could be dressed full-time with zero consequences, would you?

Does a bear shit in the woods.

Where do you see your crossdressing journey in 5 years?

I will be 66 years old then. I know being pretty gets harder and harder. Honestly I don't know. Maybe put it away as a memory and wish I had done it sooner.

Rapid Fire

Coffee or wine?
Coffee

Daytime glam or evening seduction?
I'm more of a tomboy so I'm more comfortable with daytime glam. I like either tight jeans and a top or a short skirt, tight shirt, pantyhose and high heels, classic sexy :)

Heels or flats?
3 inch and up but still able to walk

Bold lips or subtle gloss?

I overdraw. BOLD.

Lipstick shade you're wearing right now (or wish you were)?
Love any quiet darker colors

If you could leave readers with one image, feeling, or thought about crossdressing, what would it be?

People will always find something to not like about you. Move on. They don't have to like you and you don't have to like them. I always remember I'm a man dressed like a woman. I will still use the guys' bathroom, they can deal with it. :) You will have crossdressing friends separate from friends and family that should not know you crossdress. Don't force your thing on people. Have fun with it, play your part even for a little while. Eat well and exercise. It builds up over time. Stay away from sugar as best you can. :)
